10 reasons Windows 8, Windows 7 will destroy

8 Microsoft to Windows probably will not be available next year. But based on what so far we know of these windows; The operating system can be much better than Windows 7

Perhaps no company more influential in the field of Microsoft desktop operating system not found. The software giant, the operating system market across the world and has proven to have any Windows version that is capable of with a lot of changes compared to previous versions of his offer. The nothing that is not Microsoft's operating systems market space well knows and knows that to succeed in this market must be what to do.

Windows 7 Maykrsaft arguably one of the most important versions of Windows operating system on the life. After providing Windows Vista, Microsoft began to grow against market and many sellers, the rules for Down grade to Windows XP computer had tons. Customers also expect that Microsoft had enough of Vista has not been welcomed. In addition, companies no Windows Vista did not count. Well all this is bad.

With Windows 7, Microsoft was able to fix Vista well. In fact, this version of the Vista operating system that would be. And now Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 7 fastest selling has had on Windows. It is clear that Windows users also use that now, at least most are happy with XP.

However the windows in the corner just eight scenes stands; rumors surrounding Microsoft's operating system and its features, rotate. Although little information currently available operating system, but one thing certainly can be said: the 8th of 7 would be better. But why?

1. Windows 8, based on a good operating system, is improved:
8 a large Windows update will not be considered. Instead, the improved version of the operating system of Windows 7 will be. As noted, Windows 7 among consumers and companies customer success is reached. Of the things we know so far about Windows 8, it is clear that Microsoft will not something that is not broken (Windows 7) to right! So probably very similar to Windows 8 Jdsh and many features it does happen. However, that improvement is always provided to customers also will be available in Windows.

2. Security will improve:
With each release of the operating system by Microsoft - or any other company - many security flaws are fixed. This company offers security of Windows XP Service Pack 2, has increased. Windows XP was almost safe. Of course not Pyshynsh generations than rival operating systems! Service Pack Vista were helped to safety. But arguably the most secure version of Windows 7 operating system is. Then where Microsoft always safer Amlsh system worked; expect that Windows 8, the seventh is fully secure.

3. Key compatibility with ARM:
According to the consumer electrical products in recent years, showed a keen interest in ARM; Steve Ballmer, CEO Microsoft announced that the next version of Windows-based devices will support ARM. It is very important. Now that the company wants to build products based on ARM chip, using the opportunity to find the windows. This move not only to Microsoft and retailers will help his colleague, but also probably more options that consumers tend to use Windows; will be given. The opinion of a board game - has won.

4. An application store? Maybe!
It is unlikely that Microsoft to offer an application store; map is drawn. >If this occurs, and despite the so many applications available for Windows is Microsoft may be able in this area even with Apple's Mac version of the Lion to compete. The same operating system with built AppStore will be sold. The future of desktop operating systems, there really good application for a store it will depend. Currently we do not know but if sent in future applications for construction of shop windows to hear; will be glad.

5. Urgent clarification: what is necessary
One of the biggest problems is that on some Windows computers, a lot of time to boot is wasting. According to the latest rumors, Microsoft is working on a solution for Windows that can actually work a little time to prepare. May not seem important, but keep in mind that a wait to boot Windows, how much punishment can be binding.Immediately after boot, something that could become a great possibility.

6. 8 for Windows probably would be more appropriate Tblt
There are several Microsoft operating systems when its ready for deployment is in Tblt knows. But given what the statistics show; time production based on Windows 7 Tblt was low and Android users or IP S. prefer him. Because support for ARM-based device and that Microsoft is definitely more for compatibility with Windows 8 will try Tblt; must await more portable devices based on Windows be next. But how much further the market will determine the character.

7. Saving more energy:
One of the problems that Windows 7 is unable to function effectively in the field of energy savings reach. But according to information leaked from the development of Windows 8 have Maykrvsfat apparently working on energy storage capability that greatly improve. Then wait for more battery life on portable devices that we support this operating system. If this is true; obviously consumers will be happy.

8. What is History Vault?
Windows 8 possibly a new feature called History Vault will. According to rumors, the Apple Time Machine-like feature would be an easy interface for backup on his Mac. S. X; offers. But this option will allow users to Microsoft that their personal files should recover, to amend the old file, and much more work ... Microsoft still has not confirmed this feature. But if a big feature like this, be added to Windows; will be excellent.

9. Better interface:
Windows 7 interface with a more powerful market that it can be quite better than previous generations knew her. The beauty of this feature does lack something.Currently much of Microsoft's next operating system, but probably not said his time Windows 8 will be the same interface. But people are always chasing Microsoft; believe that interface a little more efficient and easier to use. If Microsoft can do this is achieved, up to the expectations of many interfaces will suit. Because the current interface is also much less.

10. Microsoft Drssh learned:
Separate from the operating system, Windows 8 likely will be better than Windows 7. It also one reason: Microsoft Windows Vista will not fail to repeat. Microsoft's latest operating system before the seventh, this company was nothing less than a nightmare. 7 for Microsoft's success was too proud to work in Vista but ruined. The result, a few years were painful for the company. Microsoft also lack confidence in buyers and sellers and investors faced Gzaransh. So we expect that these companies do special to do with Windows 8. Meanwhile, the company except to achieve a better operating system, there would be another choice.

IPhone 5 goes into production

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who works for Taiwanese company Concord Securities, the iPhone 5 will only feature "slight modfications" to the design of the iPhone 4, and that it will finally go into mass production in September this year.

He also claims that new Apple handset will contain the same A5 processor as the iPad 2, and that Qualcomm is to get in on the action by supplying the baseband processor for GSM and CDMA models.

Before you dismiss this along with other scurrilous iPhone 5 tittle tattle though, consider the fact that Kuo was also the analyst who said that the iPad 2 would feature the same screen resolution as the original iPad (1024 x 768) and that it would feature the cameras as the iPod touch, in preference to the better sensors found in the iPhone 4.

His report also states that trial production of the new device will start in August (much later than the traditional June release date of iPhones gone by), so expect to see one lying around on a bar stool from round about then.

Once strange anomaly, though, is that he still expects Apple to announced the new device at WWDC 2011, which kicks off on 6 June. However, it's highly unlikely, given previous behaviour, that Apple would announce a device months before it even goes into production.

Nokia market share falls below 30%

Nokia reported better than expected first quarter profits despite confirming that its market share around the world dropped below 30% for the first time in over a decade, as the world's top mobile phone maker continued to lose ground to its rivals.

Though the Finnish company said its net profit for the quarter fell 5 million euro (£4.4 million) to 344 million euro (£294.4 million), the markets were impressed by news that operating profit only fell 14% during the period instead of the anticipated 40% decline.

Nokia shares were up 3% at 6.11 euro (£5.38) in afternoon trading in Helsinki.

Elsewhere in its statement, Nokia revealed that its revenues grew by 9% to 10.40 billion euro (£9.16 billion) from 9.52 billion euro (£8.39 billion) in the same period in 2010, while smartphone sales were up 6% at 7 billion euro (£6.17 billion).

Despite the increase in smartphone sales, Nokia confirmed that its overall global market share plunged to 29%, from 33% a year earlier and 31% in the previous quarter.

CEO Stephen Elop said Nokia has now signed a "definitive" deal with Microsoft to develop software for smartphones "and that product design and engineering work was "well under way."

But he cautioned that the company faced "a more challenging second quarter."

Nokia said the tsunami and earthquake in Japan had disrupted the supply of some components linked to Japanese suppliers and would impact its results in the second quarter.

Nokia is the world's top cellphone maker but faces stiff competition in top-end smartphones from Apple's iPhone, Android-based handsets and Research in Motion's Blackberry.

However, Nokia said it sold 24 million smartphones, 13% more than in 2010. Total handset sales were only slightly up at 108.5 million

Solar plane makes first international flight

A solar energy plane made the world's first international flight powered by the sun on Friday to show the potential for pollution-free air travel.
The Solar Impulse took off from an airfield at Payerne in western Switzerland and landed at Brussels airport after a 13-hour flight.
The pilot and project leaders Andre Borshberg and Bertrand Piccard said it had been a major challenge to fit a slow-flying plane into the commercial air traffic system.

With an average flying speed of 44 mph, Solar Impulse is not an immediate threat to commercial jets, which can easily cruise at more than 10 times the speed. A flight from Geneva from Brussels can take little more than an hour.
But it was a huge day for the founders who wanted the whole world to see what can be achieved with existing, renewable energy.
During the flight Borshberg said it was "symbolic to be able to go from one place to another using solar energy" - a glimpse at a less polluting future.
Piccard said it was also proof that Friday the 13th is a propitious day after all.
After a whole day spent drifting quietly through the air Borshberg said he was having trouble coming back down to earth.

Yahoo rolls out e-mail upgrades

(CNN) -- Yahoo is rolling out an upgraded version of its e-mail service to its 284 million users.
The revamped service, which will become available to users in the coming weeks, will be twice as fast as previous versions and integrate more seamlessly with social networks, Yahoo said in a blog post Monday.
"This latest version of Yahoo! Mail is faster, safer, easier to use, and offers a seamless experience across PC, mobile and tablet devices," said David McDowell, a director of product management for the company.
Users of the new service will be able to respond instantly to messages from Facebook from their inbox while sharing notifications from Twitter, Facebook and Zynga via a new Updates tab.
Yahoo also is promising unlimited storage that would let users archive an infinite number of documents, photos and videos. By contrast, Google's Gmail service offers 7.5GB of free storage space, while Microsoft's free Hotmail service includes 5GB of storage.
Yahoo will prioritize messages and contacts by surfacing users' most-frequent correspondents first. Users also will be capable of sending large attachments of up to 100 megabytes without having to compress them.
Yahoo also said its spam filters and a new anti-phishing platform have reduced spam reports by 60%.
The new service, which started beta testing in October, will be available in 26 languages.
Yahoo offers the world's second-most popular Web-based e-mail service behind Microsoft's Hotmail, although both have been losing ground in recent years to Gmail.

Sony and Epsilon Agree to Testify Before Congress

Sony has finally agreed to testify before a Congressional hearing that will be held by Representative Mary Bono Mack, the chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade.

The hearing will address the massive data breach that occurred last month on Sony’s PlayStation Network and jeopardized millions of customers personal information.

Sony had declined to attend a previous hearing by the same subcommittee, saying it was currently involved in an “ongoing intensive investigation and management of this criminal cyberattack.” The previous hearing explored “The Threat of Data Theft to American Consumers” and the lack of privacy legislation to protect Americans.

Ken Johnson, senior adviser and spokesman for Ms. Mack, said in an e-mail that the new hearing would focus on data security in the United States. It is scheduled for Thursday, June 2nd.

Epsilon, a company who handled customer e-mails for many major corporations, has also agreed to testify before the subcommittee. A recent data breach at Epsilon exposed millions of people’s e-mail addresses and passwords.
“Both Sony and Epsilon have agreed to testify,” Mr. Johnson said. “Representing Sony will be Tim Schaaff, President of Sony Network Entertainment International as well as Epsilon General Counsel Jeanette Fitzgerald.”

Sony also finally answered a number of questions asked by the subcommittee in a May 17th letter pertaining to the data breach and the steps Sony took to protect its 77 million customers.

Since the massive cyber attack took place on Sony, the company has become the poster child for data and security reform in Congress.

“While Chairman Bono Mack remains critical of Sony’s initial handling of the data breaches, she also is appreciative that the company has now agreed to testify,” explained Mr. Johnson. “The Chairman firmly believes that the lessons learned from both the Sony and Epsilon experiences can be instructive and guide us as we develop comprehensive data protection legislation.”

UN chief calls for global action to end AIDS

UNITED NATIONS – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for global action Wednesday to put an end to AIDS by 2020 and relegate the killer disease to the history books.
Opening a three-day General Assembly meeting to assess progress in combatting HIV/AIDS, the U.N. chief told presidents, ministers and diplomats from across the globe that if all partners involved in the fight unite "as never before" the goal can be met.
"Today, we gather to end AIDS," the secretary-general said. "That is our goal — zero new infections, zero stigma and zero AIDS-related deaths."
Ban recalled that world leaders first took responsibility for controlling the epidemic at a U.N. meeting in 2001, and since then new infections have declined by 20 percent. Five years ago, leaders pledged that every individual would get services, care and support to cope with HIV and AIDS and since then AIDS-related deaths have fallen by 20 percent, he said.
Michel Sidibe, executive director of the United Nations AIDS agency, told the leaders that the vision of an AIDS-free world can be realized.
However, he said it will require revolutionizing HIV prevention and the mobilization of young people "as agents of change" in reducing treatment costs. It will also require ending discrimination and providing lifesaving services to the groups most affected — migrants, prisoners, people who inject drugs, sex workers, and men who have sex with men, he said.
Sidibe said 1.8 million people die of AIDS every year in the developing world and in developed countries AIDS is becoming a chronic disease. He said 9 million people in the world await treatment.
Sidibe urged donors, who have reduced funding for AIDS for the first time in 10 years, to increase their contributions to meet the new goal.
"We cannot stop our investment now," he said. "With an effective up-front investment we can make the down payment to alter the costs trajectory and end this epidemic."
The UNAIDS chief said getting to zero will require new innovations to provide inexpensive diagnostic methods and medication available for everyone, everywhere in five years.
With sustained investment in research and development, he said, "we will have a microbicide that women can use to protect themselves from HIV and we will have a vaccine that will eradicate this virus."
According to new research by UNAIDS, an additional $6 billion will be needed every year by 2015 to help avert 12 million new infections and more than seven million deaths by 2020.
Sharonann Lynch of Doctors Without Borders said "the world needs an ambitious treatment target with a plan attached to make it a reality — because it will be meaningless if countries aren't willing to come up with the cash and actions needed to break the back of the epidemic."
Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan said his country has been fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS in part by working with the local film industry to promote behavioral change and awareness among the young. And he has a bill in parliament that seeks to fight discrimination against infected people, he said.
Still, Jonathan said, getting necessary anti-retroviral medication to the 1.5 million Nigerians who need it remains a challenge, as does promoting prevention of the virus' transmission from mothers to children.
"To say that adequate funding is critical to the success of our HIV and AIDS response is an understatement," Jonathan said. "We cannot win the fight against the HIV/AIDS scourge without international solidarity."
Prime Minister Denzil Douglas of St. Kitts and Nevis, speaking on behalf of the Caribbean Community which remains the region second only to sub-Saharan Africa with the highest HIV prevalence rate, cited a 14 percent decline in new HIV infections and a 43 percent decline in AIDS-related deaths over the past decade.
He warned that without long-term and sustainable financing, "reversal of the marginal gains over the past 10 years is inevitable."

Germany still seeking reason for E. coli outbreak

BERLIN – German authorities say they haven't yet been able to resolve how sprouts at a farm became contaminated with an aggressive strain of E. coli that has been blamed for 33 deaths.
Officials determined Friday that sprouts grown at the farm in Lower Saxony state, in northern Germany, were the culprit in the outbreak — which has sickened more than 3,000 people.
But the state's agriculture ministry said Sunday that it still isn't clear whether workers brought in the bug, or whether the bacteria got onto the farm on seeds or by some other means.
The ministry says tests on some 1,100 samples, nearly 300 of them from the farm, are ongoing in an effort to answer that question. But it says that they have produced no positive results yet.

Astronauts get set to land Endeavour one last time

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – Their work in orbit complete, Endeavour's six astronauts on Tuesday checked the systems they need to bring NASA's second-to-last space shuttle flight to a close.
Commander Mark Kelly and his crew aimed for a landing in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday.
"Endeavour's performed really, really well for us over these 16 days, as it has since its first flight," Kelly said.
"When we land in Florida tomorrow, it's going to roll into the hangar and get prepared for the next step, the next phase of its life, which is in a museum. I imagine millions of people, hopefully millions of people a year will get to enjoy getting up close to the space shuttle ... but it is a bittersweet moment, it's been a great spacecraft."
Endeavour left the International Space Station over the weekend. The astronauts put the finishing touches on the orbiting lab, installing a $2 billion cosmic ray detector, an extension beam and a platform full of spare parts — enough to keep the station operating in the shuttle-less decade ahead.
Atlantis will make the final flight ever by a space shuttle in just five weeks to end the 30-year program. It will head to the launch pad Tuesday night for a July 8 liftoff; the three-mile trip from the hangar should be completed by the time Endeavour lands at 2:35 a.m.
Flight director Tony Ceccacci said the landing weather looks "very promising." For the first time in days, the crosswind forecast is within safety limits. The rules are stricter for nighttime landings.
It will be the 25th time NASA has brought a space shuttle back to Earth in darkness — representing just one-fifth of all missions.
Endeavour will have traveled 123 million miles by flight's end — on all 25 of its voyages — and spent 299 days in space. It's the youngest of NASA's shuttles, first flying in 1992 as the replacement for Challenger.
In a series of TV interviews late Monday, the astronauts talked about how huge and spectacular the space station has become. It's so sprawling that it barely fits in the shuttle viewfinder from 600 feet out, pilot Gregory Johnson said.
And as has become the custom, Kelly fielded numerous questions about his wife, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Giffords, who's recovering from a gunshot wound to the head, will remain at her rehab center in Houston. She traveled to Kennedy Space Center for both launch attempts, but the landing time is too inconvenient to warrant another trip, her husband said.
On Monday, she had the stitches removed from the skull reconstruction that she underwent just two days into his flight.
Kelly said he'll call her as soon as he lands — he expects his first words to be "I'm back" — and embrace her once he returns to Houston the day after touchdown.
Kelly said he has no regrets about having made the flight. He took a leave from NASA when the shooting occurred Jan. 8 in Tucson, Ariz., and for a while thought he might have to quit. But Giffords improved so much that when Kelly moved her to Houston for rehabilitation, he resumed flight training.
"In hindsight, it was absolutely the right decision," Kelly said. That's evidenced by the fact that the crew met all of its objectives in orbit: installing the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, carrying out four spacewalks, wrapping up the U.S. portion of space station construction.
"Being away from her, to be honest, it's difficult," he said. But it was "really, really special" that she was able to recover to the point that she could make the trip to Cape Canaveral — twice — given everything that happened to her.

All options open in cyber-attack: Pentagon

WASHINGTON: The Pentagon said Tuesday that it would consider all options if the United States were hit by a cyber-attack as it develops the first military guidelines for the age of Internet warfare.

President Barack Obama's administration has been formalizing rules on cyberspace amid growing concern about the reach of hackers. Major defense contractor Lockheed Martin said it repelled a major cyber-assault a week ago.

The White House on May 16 unveiled an international strategy on cyber-security which said the United States "will respond to hostile acts in cyberspace as we would to any other threat to our country."

"We reserve the right to use all necessary means -- diplomatic, informational, military, and economic -- as appropriate and consistent with applicable international law, in order to defend our nation, our allies, our partners and our interests," the strategy said.

Pentagon spokesman Colonel Dave Lapan said Tuesday that the White House policy did not rule out a military response to a cyber-attack.

"A response to a cyber incident or attack on the US would not necessarily be a cyber response," Lapan told reporters. "All appropriate options would be on the table if we were attacked, be it cyber."

Lapan said that the Pentagon was drawing up an accompanying cyber defense strategy which would be ready in two to three weeks.

The Wall Street Journal, citing three officials who said they had seen the document, reported Tuesday that the strategy would classify major cyber-attacks as acts of war, paving the way for possible military retaliation.

The newspaper said that the strategy was intended in part as a warning to foes that may try to sabotage the US electricity grid, subways or pipelines.

"If you shut down our power grid, maybe we will put a missile down one of your smokestacks," it quoted a military official as saying.

The newspaper said the Pentagon would likely decide whether to respond militarily to cyber-attacks based on the notion of "equivalence" -- whether the attack was comparable in damage to a conventional military strike.

Such a decision would also depend on whether the precise source of the attack could be determined. (AFP)

Microsoft shows off new "Windows 8" operating system

PALOS VERDES, California (Reuters) – Microsoft Corp showed off a version of its next operating system, highlighting touchscreen features optimized for tablet computers, at the All Things Digital technology conference on Wednesday.

The world's largest software company is expected to launch the new system, code-named Windows 8, in the next 18 months, as it races to catch up with the success of Apple Inc's iPad, which went on sale over a year ago.
In a demonstration at the D9 conference in Palos Verdes, California, a Microsoft executive showed a starting page that resembles Microsoft's latest phone software, with live 'tiles' manipulated by pressing and swiping the screen.

The head of Microsoft's Windows unit, Steven Sinofsky, said the product did not yet have a name, and did not say when it would be available.
The release date is a "Defense Department secret", joked Sinofsky, adding that it would not be this autumn.
Microsoft typically aims for 24 to 36 months between major Windows versions, suggesting a launch date for the next Windows between October 2011 and October 2012.

Sinofsky, who said Microsoft was "not out of the game" in tablets, promised more details at a developers' conference in September.
He did say Microsoft is working to integrate Internet telephone service Skype into the new system, following its agreement to purchase the company last month.

The demonstration shows Microsoft is making progress toward the new operating system, which it promises will run on a range of hardware devices from traditional PCs to laptops and tablets, using both touchscreen and mouse and keyboard commands.
Five months ago, Sinofsky showed off a crude version of the new Windows system working on ARM Holdings chips -- which work better on mobile devices due to their low power requirements -- at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

That signaled a change in emphasis for Microsoft toward mobile devices, although the new Windows will still run on chips made by traditional partner Intel Corp.

Logitech S715i

Pros: The sound quality is incredible, especially for this price range. The designated woofers and tweeters make it an optimal speaker for many different genres of music. The case + remote are an added bonus!

Cons: I find that the kickstand doesn't hold on some surfaces (plugging in the device or adding extra support behind the kickstand are effective remedies). Also, I have to remove the bottom portion of my iphone's case in order to dock it (annoying!)

Summary: Great speakers, great investment. The bass may be overpowering for some, but you can use the bass reducing EQ available on your ipod/iphone to fix this. I love them! My friend just got a similar Bose speaker for $500, and this is just as good--if not better.

Flash Drive Lock fits any standard USB memory stick

If you’re looking for some hardware-based protection to supplement data encryption on your USB memory stick, you might want to consider the Flash Drive Lock. The combination lock fits to the end of any standard USB memory stick and can’t be removed without inputting the correct three-digit code, thereby preventing any nefarious types from inserting the drive into a computer’s USB slot.

The Flash Drive Lock allows the user to set their own three-digit code and the distributors claim the lock is a must for any office computer user, especially civil servants, who must be a particularly nosy bunch. The lock probably won’t prevent any determined sticky beaks, so users wouldn’t want to discard any encryption tools being used to protect data from prying eyes, but the device could deter casual snoops.

The Flash Drive Lock is available in red or silver for UKP£5.95 for a single unit, or UKP£9.90 for two.

New energy source through waste heat

New technology is being developed at OSU to capture and use the low-to-medium grade waste heat that's now going out the exhaust pipe of millions of automobiles, diesel generators, or being wasted by factories and electrical utilities.
The potential cost savings, improved energy efficiency and broad application of such technology is enormous, experts say. The new systems now being perfected at OSU should be able to use much of that waste heat either in cooling or the production of electricity.
A prototype device has been finished to demonstrate the efficacy of this technology, and the findings just published in Applied Thermal Engineering, a professional journal.
"This could become a very important new energy source and way to improve energy efficiency," said Hailei Wang, a research associate in the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at OSU. "The prototype shows that these systems work as well as we expected they would."
More than half of the heat generated by industrial activities is now wasted, Wang said, and even very advanced electrical power plants only convert about 40 percent of the energy produced into electricity. The internal combustion engines of automobiles are even worse -- they generally operate around 25-40 percent conversion efficiency. The very function of an automobile radiator is to dissipate wasted heat.
Various approaches have been attempted, and are sometimes used, to capture and use at least some of that waste heat to produce cooling. The new system being developed at OSU may do that as, or more efficiently than past approaches, be more portable, and also have one major advantage -- the ability to also produce electricity.
It's called a "thermally activated cooling system" that gains much of its efficiency by using extraordinarily small microchannels which help to better meet the performance, size and weight challenges. It effectively combines a vapor compression cycle with an "organic Rankine cycle," an existing energy conversion technology.
The new prototype completed at OSU succeeded in turning 80 percent of every kilowatt of waste heat into a kilowatt of cooling capability. Researchers say the conversion efficiency wouldn't be nearly as high if the goal is to produce electricity -- about 15-20 percent -- but it's still much better than the current approach, which is to waste the energy potential of all of the heat.
"This technology would be especially useful if there's a need to have cooling systems where heat is being wasted," Wang said. "That's one reason the research has been supported by the Department of Defense, because they see it being used to provide needed air conditioning for electronics and other purposes when they are using generators in the field."
However, the OSU scientists said that may be just the beginning. Factories often produce enormous amounts of wasted heat in their operations. The systems could also be incorporated into alternative energy technologies such as solar or geothermal, scientists say, in addition to fossil fuel use.
Conceptually, it should also be possible for such systems to be used in hybrid automotive technology, taking waste heat from the gasoline engine and using it not only for air conditioning but also to help recharge the battery that powers the vehicle, Wang said.
Continued research will be needed to perfect the technology and adapt it to different uses, the scientists said.
The work takes advantage of OSU's advanced programs in microchannel technology, a key focus of the Microproducts Breakthrough Institute operated by OSU and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. This study was co-authored by Rich Peterson, an OSU professor of mechanical engineering, expert in thermal sciences and energy systems, and associate director of the Microproducts Breakthrough Institute.

Solar Powered Cap

This solar powered ventilated cap is meant to keep you cool during the hot summer months.

The hat reminds me of the propeller hat that you saw geeks wearing in teen movies such as Revenge Of The Nerds. With the ecofriendly solar powered hat, you aren’t going to win any beauty competitions or high fashion awards, but if you don’t care about your personal appearance and just want to say cool, then this geeky hat may do the trick.

The cap goes high tech, replacing the propeller on top with a solar power panel. This panel uses sun energy to power a small fan on the bill of the cap. The cap size can be adjusted and sells for $3.99.
